Clay Sketches, 2007

Aluminum, color anodized, diverse formats

Numerous small-format sketches in clay were created for the work on the Styrofoam models. They were cast in aluminum and anodized in color.

Anodizing aluminum is an electro-chemical process that leads to the creation of a coating in which various pigments can be embedded. The technique allows for a spontaneous, watercolor-like handling of the color and is thus well suited to Anne Chu’s method of working. After a series of color tests, several aluminum sculptures by Anne Chu were colored on site at BWB, an anodizing company in Altenrhein.
