Praying Mantis, 2017

Cast bronze, waterworks

The grasshopper-like sculpture makes reference to the work of the sculptor Germaine Richier. For Praying Mantis, a sculpture in the style of a figure by Richier was modeled in plaster in St.Gallen. Negatives of the individual parts, including the scissors, an important work instrument for Farmer, that are stuck in the figure’s back, were produced and cast in bronze in the lost wax technique. The book on its legs and the one on its head were cast in the direct burn out process, patinated, and the entire figure was then also equipped with waterworks, which make water leak from the figure’s fingertips.
