Converse, 2012

“Converse” shows the three-dimensional inner life of an athletic shoe, divided into segments. A real athletic shoe served as the original mold. It was filled with wax and then cut open so that the wax form could be taken out. This form provided the positive for the lost wax process. The casting was done in solid bronze. The raw-cast block was divided and the edges of the cuts then polished. The black surface of the casting was retained at all other points and patinated. Thanks to engraved numbers, the segmented inner life of the athletic shoe resembles construction kit.
